A big part of running an online business is using tools and software. When I first started learning online skills and was focused on starting my own service-based business I didn’t even know what kind of software or tools even existed. Now, I took a different route and went into blogging (however, I will soon offer a service). But I really wanted to put together a list of the most important tools that online entrepreneurs, or more specifically service providers, will need to grow a successful online business.
I have spent many hours finding out what kind of tools service providers love. These types of tools are not just great for your service-based business but they are the absolute favorite among over 220 entrepreneurs. I use some of them myself and they are great tools for entrepreneurs.
If you want to jump straight into reading about the actual software and its features then read here or check the free resources in the menu section above. I’ll also link to them as I mention them in this blog post. So keep reading!
Let’s get into the best tools for service providers.
1. A one-stop tool with CRM
A one-stop tool is the absolute favorite kind of tool because it is an all-in-one software that will streamline your business and best of all, AUTOMATE. This tool will save you a ton of time and improve your business relationships.
The tools can have slightly different features. But they do most of what you need to get your tasks done when you run a service-based business. From project management to CRM (client relationship management), to sending invoices, to time tracking, and more. It takes some time setting up and has a learning curve which is understandable with a robust system like this.
Many new entrepreneurs don’t start with this all-in-one tool but opt to pick and choose a few different tools that might be free or less expensive and easier to set up.
The tools have free trials or subscription plans so check them out to see if you’d like them in your business.
2. Project management tool
A project management tool is so important to have when running your online business. You can centralize all of your activities with this software. You can keep track of all your tasks, organize your business processes, you can schedule, set deadlines for deliverables, communicate with clients or team members, and so on. It’s basically a tool you NEED to have in your biz. And ticking off tasks is so satisfying 🙂
They all work a little different and look different so take the time to see which one you would like most with the way your brain processes things. Most of them have free plans so take a look at them here.
3. Scheduling management tool
The third most important tool for entrepreneurs is a scheduling tool. These tools will help you schedule discovery calls or client meetings without back and forth emails since clients can self-schedule their own appointments. All you have to do is show up on time! After clients book a time they will receive a unique meeting link and a password in their email. They’ll use this to log in when it’s time for the appointment. Scheduling tools are great and they will help you save time and hassle. Read about them here.
4. Time tracking tool
The fourth most important tool for service providers is a time tracking tool. This is needed to track the time that you work for your clients or track where you’re spending your time. They are also great tools when working with a team. These tools can be used for free and that’s perfect as you’re starting your business.
I personally use a time tracking tool and it’s been great to see how many hours I work each day, week, or month and on what. I don’t have a very fixed schedule as I have kids to take care of while my husband is at work. So having a tool easily ready to track my work time, whenever that may be, has been very good. Many entrepreneurs integrate the tracking tool into their project management system or as a Chrome extension. Click here to see the time tracking tools.
5. Client communication + meeting tool
In fifth place is a communication tool. This is essential when running an online business. You have to communicate with clients and your team if you plan to have a team in the future. You can use these tools to text with or video call others. Since we work online we need these tools to communicate and have meetings besides using email. Many service providers offer discovery video calls to sign on potential clients and keep in contact throughout the duration of what the contract says. So check out the list of the favorite communication tools among entrepreneurs.
These top five tools are so great for your service-based business. They will help you save time, know what to work on every day, improve your client relationship and experience working with you, be more productive and professional, and so on.
The tools I use for my business I love using every single day. It makes working so much more enjoyable and I feel, as I do my work, I am moving forward. And that is a great feeling. Don’t we all want to have a successful business and be happy running it?
I hope this helps you on your way to your blissful business!
